Megumi Lemons was born in Kawasaki, Japan, and spent her formative years in Los Angeles, California. Drawing from the moment she could hold a pencil, art has always been a part of her life. Memories of her Japanese childhood -- brightly colored kimonos, delicate hand-designed crafts and children’s toys, linger in her thoughts. That delicacy of design and color informs her current work, be it an abstract, floral, or a landscape painted in acrylic media on canvas or paper. Following her analytical impulses, she creates works that allow her to solve the puzzle of the push and pull between color, subject and design. Exploring the relationship between color and space is one she finds infinitely fascinating. Megumi graduated from California State University in Long Beach, California with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration. Since then her artistic career has included editorial and children’s illustration, as well as commercial fine art. When she is not painting, Megumi finds music and travel stimulating and a great source of exciting new ideas. “I like art for the same reasons I like music and travel … the sensory experience of something new and beautiful.” |
